What is Individual Events? IE (aka Forensics) is comprised of twelve distinct events split broadly into two branches - Interpretation categories and Public Address categories. In Interpretation categories, students perform the work of another author. In Public Address categories, students are the authors of the material which they present.
Interpretation (Interp) categories include: Dramatic Interpretation Program Oral Interpretation Prose Interpretation Poetry Interpretation Storytelling Duo Interpretation Multiple Interpretation Public Address (PA) categories include: Broadcasting Duo Commentary Extemporaneous Impromptu Informative Oratory Sales 9/10 Categories On a 5-year rotating basis, one category from each branch (Interp & Public Address) also will have a "9/10" section, open only to freshmen and sophomores. The rotation is: 2025-26 Oratory & Prose 2026-27 Sales & Dramatic Interp 2027-28 Impromptu & Story 2028-29 Informative and Duo 2029-30 Extemp & Poetry Speech Activities - Relevant portions of our "rule book", SPEECH ACTIVITIES for all MIFA events can be found under the "Resources" tab. In addition, MIFA presents the Diana Rose Award, recognizing the hard work and sacrifice of coaches of Individual Events in Michigan. Details. Nomination Form.
