Elections
Forensic Council - Nomination form
MIFA Forensic Council
MIFA By-Laws, Article V, explains the composition, selection process, and purpose of the MIFA Forensic Council.

Composition of Forensic Council (our 15-person board of directors):
  • Four Council seats are elected by MIFA member schools (MIFA At-Large Positions)
  • Four seats are elected by the members of our sister organization (Michigan Speech Coaches Inc.)
  • Four seats are reserved for the chairs of the various Speech Activities Committees (Debate, IE, Middle Level & Theatre)
  • Three seats are reserved for education administrators and advancement (1 Principal, 1 Superintendent & 1 College/University)

Election Process:
  • MIFA Elected At-Large Positions: these positions serve a two year term. They are grouped in two's so that every year there is an election for two seats. The nomination window is typically in May and the election runs throughout June leading up and ending on the Annual Meeting date. These positions require self-nomination.
  • MSCI Elected At-Large Positions: Elections by the MSCI membership take place at their Spring Conference at the Grand Hotel on Mackinac Island. Please refer to the MSCI Website for additional details about their nomination and election process.
  • Committee Chair Positions: these positions serve a one year term and are elected by the committees in July once the elections for Council and Committees have ended.

As a member of the Forensic Council you will be expected to:
> Be a point of contact for questions and concerns from coaches/directors
> Represent the interests and concerns of all schools you represent (eg. Event Committee Chair, MIFA At-large, Class A, Class BCD or North of 69)
> Attend and participate in Council meetings (typically 6 per year, half of which are in person/half online)
> Work with Committee members and MIFA staff to revise rules and improve processes for events
> Serve in tournament/festival administration roles as requested

regional reps Event Committees - Nomination Form
MIFA Event Committees
MIFA By-Laws, Article VII, explains the composition, selection process, and purpose of the MIFA Committees.

Composition of Committees: All four committees (Individual Events, Debate, Middle Level, and Theatre) consist of nine individuals that represent their geographical region. The regional map for representation can be found here.

Election Process:
  • MIFA Committee Positions: these positions serve a two year term. Individuals are elected by MIFA Member schools. Individuals can self-nominate or nominate others. Odd number regions are up for election in odd numbered years and even number regions are up for election in even numbered years.
  • MIFA Committee Chair Positions: these positions serve a one year term as chair (but are on committee for two years). These positions are voted on within the composition after the general elections have ended. Committee Chairs also serve on Forensic Council.

As a Region Committee representative you will be expected to:
> Be a point of contact for questions and concerns from coaches/directors in your Region
> Represent the interests and concerns of all schools in your Region at Committee meetings
> Attend and participate in Committee meetings (typically 6 per year, half of which are in person/half online)
> Work with Committee members, Forensic Council and MIFA staff to revise rules and improve processes for events
> Serve in tournament/festival administration roles as requested
