In one of the most progressive moves in a decade, MIFA has changed its three-tier state debate tournament from a size-based structure to an experience-based structure. We believe this will provide a fairer and more educational tournament experience for all.
For 2011-2012 MIFA has converted back to a Two-tier system.
1. Tier one will be comprised of schools which have participated only in League debates and no invitational tournaments.
2. Tier two will be comprised of schools which may or may not have competed in league competition and which have participated in invitational tournaments (either in-state or out-of-state or both).
We recognize this may not equalize the size of the three divisions in the tournament, but we are certain it will provide greater parity between competing programs.
