Individual Events highlights a variety of twelve public address and interpretation events. Invitational tournaments and league activities provide opportunities for a student to participate at all levels of difficulty. High school participants compete in a bi-level elimination series which includes a regional and state final tournament in each event. The MIFA State Final Tournament determines a state champion in each event, and honors the top schools in three school classes. MIFA also sponsors a statewide interpretation pentathalon tournament. Students compete in five different events to showcase the diversity of their skills. Students may participate in broadcasting, drama interpretation, duo interpretation, extemporaneous speaking, impromptu speaking, informative speaking, multiple interpretation, oratory, poetry interpretation, prose interpretation, sales speaking, or storytelling. Each year, for senior high schools, one of the public address events and one of the interpretation events will be exclusively for ninth and tenth grade students. Another competition in these same events will be "open" for competitors at all grade levels; thus, there will be two competitions in these categories.
SPEECH ACTIVITIES for all MIFA events can be found under the "About Us" tab. That is what serves as a rule book for the activity.
The State IE Tournament will be held at Western Michigan University. Check the details in the calendar.
